We live in a society that values independence, autonomy, and an attitude about life that "looks out for #1." The Bible, however, places man in the midst of community, both with God and with fellow man. In the book of Genesis see that every man is made in the image of God, and our God exists in three persons perfectly and eternally. In the beginning, God said, "Let us make man in our image," later declaring that it was "...not good for man to be alone." Why is it not good? Because a man outside of community doesn't look enough like the God he was created to reflect. In fact, we are more like God when we live together in harmonious community than when we stand alone. There are large portions of the Bible that we cannot obey as individuals simply because those commands require the involvement of others.
Christ Himself lived in community with His disciples, and went so far as to say of them, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Later, in the book of Acts, we see Christians eating together, worshipping together, learning Scripture together, praying together, and serving together, all with glad and generous hearts. In doing so, we read that other people in their community were coming to faith in Christ, because the church was known for their love for one another and because they made their love evident by living out their faith for others to see.
We encourage you to find a Community Group that is close to you so that you can experience the benefits of Christ's church. Our groups are local and diverse; in other words, we don't divide people by age, hobby, income, or stage of life. Rather, we encourage diverse people from the same neighborhood to love each other well and to love their neighborhood well. Each group seeks to be of benefit to each other and to their community. Check out the map above to see which groups are close to you. When you've found one that works, fill out this online registration form and we'll get in touch with more information!
